Goals & Objectives of the Rebel Recycling Program

Committed to providing the campus with comprehensive waste reduction, recycling and resource management in an efficient, timely manner.

GOALS

OBJECTIVE

To divert the highest possible amount of materials from the waste stream.

Double the amount of cardboard collected by increasing the number of collection locations from eight to about 40.

Fundraise between $5,000 and $6,000 for the construction of 63 aluminum recycling receptacles for the academics malls and outdoor grounds.

Develop a plan/project to procure recycling "cabinets" for inside the UNLV buildings.

Develop a Move-In/Move-Out Program at the UNLV Residence Halls.

Develop a comprehensive waste management plan for the Residence Halls.

Develop management plans for the special waste on campus that currently is not recycled.

Increase the number of departments participating in the Faculty/Staff program.

Provide recycling at UNLV's special and sporting events.

Provide opportunities for meaningful student involvement.

Encourage more waste related theses to Environmental Studies undergraduates.

Sponsor Rebel Recycling Volunteer Days.

Provide ENV 490 seminar students with doable semester projects to improve the Rebel Recycling Program.

Increase education relating to
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

Publish a UNLV Environmental Studies undergraduate thesis outlining the special waste on campus (on the web & develop an educational brochure)

Promote and expand this web-site.

Provide tours of the UNLV Rebel Recycling Program to UNLV and the community.

Participate in Earth Day.

Provide presentations to UNLV faculty/staff, student groups and community organizations.

Develop and publish brochures on the 3 Rs and the Rebel Recycling program.

Increase the amount and diversify the kinds of educational hand-outs and displays.

Create a Recycling Information Center for students and the community.

Create a web page for the State of Nevada Recycling Program.

Develop a newsletter, published once a semester .

Establish a waste reduction program.

Establish a CUPPS program to decrease the amount of disposable cups being used.

Develop educational material to educate the UNLV community about waste reduction.

Develop posters to educate faculty and staff about waste reduction.

Work with EPA's WasteWi$e Program.

Establish a reuse program.

Establish a CUPPS program to decrease the amount of disposable cups being used.

Establish a Reusable Office Supply Exchange (ROSE) program like the University of Oregon.

Establish a yearly "swap" program at the Residence Halls (RH) to sell materials collected at the RH during Move-Out.

The goals and objectives listed above have an extensive timeframe. The Rebel Recycling Program can not take huge developmental steps.
We are committed to taking adequate steps to continually improve and expand the program, but not at a cost of compromised service.
